The Mantel of Old Souls

The Mantel of Old Souls

What is on your mantel lately?
*
is it Bare..is it Full?
Decorated  with Flowers?
Pictures?
We adorn our spaces..with symbols, trinkets and memories
colors, shapes, textures..

Lately my mantel is charmed with old souls
Copper Goblets and crystals and candles.

I love taking photos to create a mood..to stir feelings,
conjure an atmosphere
*
I love symbolic suggestion..
Look..A Copper Goblet with Golden wings..
I am also captured inside..
*

Sometimes I like taking photos with a flash
even when not needed
..or take photos in poor lighting
with low light settings
or in the complete Dark
to see what magic will transpire..
*
the flash sparks like lightening in the dark..
..and a sheen or glare
comes into the picture..
casting a spell and giving it an old feel
*

The result ...is like an imperfect photo
that  you would see in someone's old photo album
..yet it still feels lovely and charming in it's own way
I love that vintage-y- vibe!
do you like experimenting too?

Faces charm the mantle
with their own secret worlds..

I love to tilt photos
and if you know me by now..
you'll see many upsidedown too..

Can you see the Diamond Windows shining through her Heart?
Magical!
*
She is one of my favorites /print/paintings of long ago
The Lady with a Unicorn
~1506~Raffaello Sanzio~
*
I love the windows in her heart..
like a sign ..a message, a beautiful secret.

More vintage-glare
Copper warms the scene and mutes the gold
amethyst anchors the golden wings on antique wood
*
Thanks for stopping by...

Wishing you a magical day
and beautiful week!

Thanks for visiting...and sparking my world

What is on your mantel lately?

Dearest Victoria, what a lovely post! I adore the new look. We have flowers and photos, little birds and candles on our mantle. Things to bring cheer and remind us of simple pleasures and beauty. I love the images you shared here - full of magic and mystery. :) Enjoy the night! Theresa

Oh my, I am breathless with the beauty you have shared here!
You have such a magic with photography, it is like you capture a field of energy! A field that is exactly what you are hoping to share.
Brilliant!
On my mantle you would see some copper colored candles, a gorgeous turquoise vase, a sign that says celebrate, a lovely bundle of white sage, and some images that feel relaxed and positive.
Hugs to you,
Terri

i love the diamonds on her heart --- i find it really fun to experiment with the camera as well -- taking fotos under low light conditions can actually create wonderfully moody images~

i think there's a certain power that comes with arranging objects over a fireplace - lovely idea!

Hi Victoria,
Whenever i see your posts, it's like im being transported to another time, time of romance, time of kings and queens, I love how you decorate your mantel, i love the paintings and how you add loveliness with copper goblet, and i do agree that experimenting in taking pics could give interesting result, like you i do love to use flash when i want to, in the dark without it, in the wee hours in the morning where only a little sunlight streaming thru the window, it's magical..just like your photos! Thanks for sharing!

Great background! I have tried almost every single background on blogger and haven't come up with this combination. Pretty!
I can tell you what is on my mantel, Dust.
I like your mantel much better. The pictures add so much to it. Somehow I knew you were a elegant interior designer as well!

Dear Kiki, flash or no flash, dark or light, all your photos are simply magical. I REALLY mean it. LOVE the new header. I don't have a mantel (sigh...) but if I did, I'd want it to look just like yours! Hope you are having a beautiful Valentine's Day, filled with nothing but love and laughter. Hugs! XO

I don't have a mantel :( They are not really needed on this warm isle. I love the way you experiment with your photos and I love the copper glow and the diamond hearts too.

My home is too modern - I don't have mantels! I have window sills but I tend to keep them nice and tidy or they become cat fodder.

I love these paintings - they look as though they belong on the back of tarot cards.

Hi, Kiki. Your blog has a calmer feel. More settled. More sure of itself, like a parlor of an old house, the clock ticking; you know you are in for an adventure, but wait patiently and the feel of that is comforting. Thank you. I have Kwan Yin on one of my mantles that I just change. The mantle wanted change because it fell. Kwan Yin = a photo of her, and some gifts of nature. Now that I have read your post I am going to do two things: change up my side board (my home's all the time mantle) for Spring, and second, play with the camera and llghting. I always think of the post when you went looking for old souls at the used furniture shops. I would love you to take us again!! Peace. Brianne

These paintings remind me of my trip to the National Gallery at the weekend. All those old faces immortalised in oils for evermore!

My mantel has candles (and a burnt patch on the mirror frame where the lit candle got too close!)
